Welcome to GDI

Hello Future Game Developers!

Welcome to the Game Development Institute (GDI) at Austin Community College.

The GDI is an exciting inter-disciplinary program that encompasses the three tracks of Game Design, Game Programming, and Game Art. Each degree track has been developed to teach new students the skills necessary to work in the growing games industry. Further, our mission includes assisting students into advanced programs at other institutions. And finally, GDI is here to help industry professionals who choose to hone, expand, or update their skills. The faculty and staff of GDI are quite dedicated to serving the student and the game industry.

We support the enrichment of our students. Therefore, our values include the empowerment of students to achieve personal and educational excellence through technical skill development, innovation, self-discipline, and collaboration. GDI also responds to the needs of local and regional workforce though industry, academic, and government alliances. Finally, the program is diverse and accessible for both traditional and non-traditional student populations interested in the gaming industry.

We accredit the expertise of the industry. That is why our program is built from the experience and passion of industry professionals who develop and teach the courses in game design and development, art, and computer science. We also rely on the vision and know how of our game advisory committee to assist with curriculum, guidance, and internships. As a result, our students are well prepared not only for entry level work in existing companies but also as budding game designers and developers who choose to develop their own projects.

We provide world-class training facilities. The Game Development Institute is located on the first floor, building 3000 at the Northridge campus of Austin Community College. The Institute includes a newly designed facility with five state-of-the-art game development labs equipped with industry standard equipment and software. In addition, the Institute houses an Applied Game Lab that allows our students to develop projects as an individual or while interfacing with industry. So as you can see, our faculty, staff, and facilities are all dedicated to providing students with real world training that will help them succeed in the games industry.
